HELLO THERE…
Thank you for taking the time to check out my work and read more about me!
My name is John Hoffman and this is my ceramic portfolio. Currently, I’m a Product Manager by day and potter by night, working out of one of the oldest shared pottery studios in New York City.
My Roots…
I got into this art of making a mess long ago. It began with play-doh and tin foil. Then Lincoln Logs and Legos. Whatever I could get my hands on, I was constantly creating and finding ways to express myself beyond my few words. Ceramics found me in high school by chance. I loved how clay provided tactile, instant feedback, allowing me to experiment, fail, and try again with ease. I didn’t know it then, but this was the beginning of me embracing Wabi-Sabi. Pottery is my catharsis. It allows me to create something tangible, gives me a place to get my hands dirty, and provides some time to escape.
My Influences…
You will find that many of my influences come from Japan and the Nordics. My pieces represent simplicity, tranquility, naturalness, and a hint of hygge.
